Biot

This charming medieval perched village, surrounded by hills is 40 minutes away from Nice or Cannes.

Biot has a typical Provencal feeling and offers rich history while strolling its narrow streets. Here, the Knights Templars had settled in 1209. Then came the Italians who brought back life to the village, during XVth century, and made it survive. Today, glass hand-craft has given a new reputation to the village which before was specialized in pottery making, important during XVIII th century.

Visit the bubble glass factory, at the foot of the village, created in 1956, by Eloi Monod. You can admire here bubble glass being blown, cut, and shaped, just like in the past, all by hand work.

You can also visit the Fernand Léger museum. This artist in love with modernity, created a new “genre” that you can admire here, in this museum, so called the Cathedral of the modern art. It was built by his second wife, on grounds bought by the artist before his death.

It welcomes more than 350 original works of the artist.
